I'm trying to swap out my old boob light for a ceiling fan, but I've hit a bit of a snag. The electrical box is approved for fans up to 70lb, but it's recessed about an inch and a half into the ceiling. I'm wondering if I can safely use much longer screws to attach the fan mounting bracket. The previous light had a stem, so I can't see how to attach the fan bracket without longer screws. Any advice?

I'd recommend using an extension ring to bring the bracket flush with the ceiling. This is often the safest option for mounting a fan securely.

That seems like a perfect solution! Thank you! Does that need to be fan-rated as well, or will any extension ring that fits do the job?
