Why Won’t My Door Close Properly?

I'm having trouble with my door not closing correctly. The top of it doesn't sit flush, and the latch isn't engaging unless I lift the door up. Any advice on how to fix this issue?

I totally get your frustration! If you can, post a picture of the door. It might help to illustrate the issue better. But from what you’re saying, it does sound like it’s sagging. The top not being flush is a common problem when the hinges are loose.

It sounds like your door might be sagging a bit. First, check the hinges, especially the top one, to make sure the pins are completely in and nothing is loose. Sometimes, the screws can get unscrewed, which can create that gap at the top. Make sure they’re all tight!

Definitely tighten all the hinge screws, paying close attention to the top hinge on the jamb side. If the screws aren't gripping, you might need to replace them with longer screws to help pull the door back into place. It's likely sagging, which can cause that misalignment.
