How Can I Clean Cat Pee from Soil?

Asked By SunnyGardener42 On

I recently bought some new orchid bark and soil, which was a bit damp. To help it dry, I left it out in the sun, but when I mixed it up, I found a spot in the middle that reeked of cat urine! I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to clean it up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you thought about just rinsing the urine out? It might be messy, but it could help. I totally get the concern about turning it into a muddy mess, though! It's worth a shot if you're running out of options.

I've never dealt with this situation specifically, but I'm guessing that ammonia from the pee might mess with the soil's pH. If you can, you might want to test the soil pH just to be safe. It could help you figure out the best way to handle it!
