I recently built my own cornhole set and decorated the surface with bottle caps using silicone. Unfortunately, after sealing the caps with liquid nails, I discovered they started coming off during play. To avoid the mess of epoxy, which I wasn't confident using, I opted for crystal clear silicone. Now, the surface is really tacky, and the bags won't slide at all. I'm looking for advice on what I can apply to the surface to make it smooth enough for the bags to slide properly, but I explicitly want to avoid using plexiglass since I've had trouble cutting it and it ended up cracking. Any suggestions?

Sorry to say it, but if you're determined to stick with what you have, there may not be a great solution. I suggest higher trim pieces on the sides to create a level over the caps, then fill that space with epoxy. It’s not perfect, but it might help a bit! Just keep in mind the hole in the middle might need some extra attention.
Honestly, if I were you, I’d consider just starting over with the boards. I know it’s a drag, but silicone and bags just don’t mix well for cornhole!
It sounds like silicone is making the surface too grippy, which is a bummer. Honestly, there isn't an easy fix since silicone doesn't really bond well with other materials. You might have to consider starting fresh or going the plexiglass route again, despite the troubles you've had.
