Managing Water Needs for Daffodils and Their Companion Plants

Last fall, I planted 300 daffodil bulbs on my sloped front yard, and I'm eagerly anticipating their bloom! Now, I'm in the planning stages for companion plants, but I've hit a snag. I've heard daffodils require a lot of water while they're leafing out and in bloom, but once they finish flowering, watering should be significantly reduced. The challenge is most of the companion plants I'm considering—such as annual flowers, Japanese anemones, and azaleas—prefer consistently moist soil and may not handle drought well. How can I balance the water needs of both the daffodils and these companion plants?

I've got daffodils growing everywhere, and honestly, I don't fuss over them much. They just need good light! My yards have a mix of perennials and shrubs, and I avoid soggy areas. My daffodils thrive in clay soil, and despite our dry spells after June, they continue to improve year after year. I end up having to thin them out after about seven years, so they seem pretty resilient!

That's interesting! It reminds me of the daffodils in a nearby public garden—no extra watering and they're doing just fine. But I'm curious if you think I'd need to water the area after they bloom to support the annuals? I'm a bit worried about bulb rot.
