Hey everyone! I'm thinking about buying either an electric hand planer or a table planer for my upcoming projects. My main goal is to achieve a flatter surface that looks great when finished. However, I'm really curious about the kind of finish each type of planer leaves on the wood. Does the surface end up feeling almost sanded, or will I still need to do a lot of sanding afterward? I'm looking to minimize my sanding time, and I'm wondering if choosing the right planer could help with that. Thanks for your insights!

It definitely depends on the planer you choose! I have a DeWalt DW735, and it offers two feed rate options. When you use the slower feed rate, it really leaves you with a smooth, finished product that's almost ready to go without much sanding.

Got it! Do you think a hand planer could also get a finish like that, or is that a benefit only table planers have?
