Hey folks, I'm new to woodworking and I need some advice. I've got a trim piece that's already cut to 6 feet long, which is the perfect length for what I need. My challenge is that I want to miter a 44-degree angle on one end, but I'm not sure how to do this without losing any length from the board. I'm struggling to figure out where the 'zero' position is on my miter saw as well. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

One approach is to ‘cut it proud’ and then gradually make smaller cuts until you reach your mark. It can take a few tries, but it’ll help you avoid cutting off too much at once.
You can just mark the angle you need on the end of the board and set it up on the saw. Make sure the end of the cut meets the tip of the board so you don’t trim off extra length. It’s all about getting that initial line right! Just double-check your measurements first.
If you’re using a miter saw, check if you can use a sacrificial fence to support your board. This way, you can align your piece better and achieve a cleaner cut without risking the length.
