Hey everyone! I'm diving into the world of vinyl flooring and looking at planks from Costco or similar stores. I've done a bit of research, watching videos and exploring options, but I still have some questions. For cutting the planks, I'm wondering if inexpensive tools like cardboard cutters or box cutters from Amazon can handle the job for around 800 square feet of flooring. I'm on the lookout for practical, easy-to-use options that won't break the bank. Also, if I plan to install the flooring in June when it's hot, do I still need to use spacers? I'm hoping they won't need to extend too far beyond the walls and baseboards. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The tools you'll need can depend a lot on the type and quality of your vinyl flooring. If you share a link to what you're considering, I can give better advice! But for sure, you’ll need spacers, a mallet, and a tapping block. Knee pads will help you stay comfortable while installing too. A utility knife might work, but for thicker planks, consider using a jig saw or circular saw for cleaner cuts!
Totally agree with the others. Spacers are essential to allow the vinyl to expand with heat. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations on spacing. As for cutting, I noticed that some thicker options don't score and snap well, so you might want to get a saw for that if necessary.
Definitely need those spacers! They help with expansion and contraction of the planks due to temperature changes. As for tools, I recommend getting an installation kit—it usually comes with the essentials. Sam's Club has some great deals on vinyl plank flooring, though their selection is somewhat limited. If you're looking for cutters, just a solid mallet and a tapping block will be crucial! Knee pads are also a lifesaver!

Thanks for the tip! What's the real purpose of spacers in this case?
