Can You Control Ceiling Fans with Remotes and Wall Switches?

I'm curious about ceiling fans that come with remotes. If I get one, can I still use the wall switches to control the fan and lights, or will I only be able to use the remote? I'd love to know if the remote is really handy from bed, or if I'm going to end up with wall switches that don't do anything.

I just bought a ceiling fan with a remote a couple of months ago. The wall switch controls the power, so if it’s off, you can’t use the remote until you turn it back on. I usually leave it on and just use the remote, but I flip the switch when I leave the room to completely turn it off. Just a quick tip to remember!

Most of the time, these remotes are meant to replace the wall switch. They typically allow you to control the fan and lights separately without needing an additional switch. However, it seems like manufacturers are focusing more on the remote as the main control. I’ve had enough of fans with remotes myself; I'm on the hunt for some traditional ones without lights instead!

From my experience, you can control both the fan and lights using the remote and the wall switch. Just a heads up, after a power outage, my wall switch stopped working until I used the remote to reset things. So, it’s a good idea to keep the remote handy, just in case!

That’s good to know! Was there anything on the packaging that mentioned you could use both? I’m worried I’ll buy one and it won’t be as versatile.

Absolutely! Most ceiling fans allow for control via both the remote and the wall switch. I really enjoy my fan with a remote because I can also dim the lights with it, which is super convenient!
