Is $2500 a Fair Price for Laying Stone for My Shed?

I got a quote for $2500 from a landscaper to lay crushed stone for a 10x12 shed near the woods. The job involves digging out some mulch to reach solid dirt and he estimated needing about 13 yards of gravel plus 2 yards of a nicer stone to match what's already there. This includes compacting everything down and laying a weed barrier. I'm located in Massachusetts. Does this price sound reasonable?

Honestly, everything seems overpriced until you’re out there using a shovel and wheelbarrow! This quote seems in line with what you’d expect for that kind of job. It's usually more work than people realize!

I think $2500 sounds reasonable, especially given the prep work involved. I just did a similar project where I had to do all the digging myself, and it took forever. The cost for that type of work typically adds up quickly, especially if the landscaper also removes all the excess material from the site.

The price seems fair but the amount of gravel he quoted doesn't quite add up to me. Typically for a shed base, you’d need around 4-5 cubic yards. Still, the overall price might reflect other factors like equipment use and if they're also doing solid edging. Just make sure to get a couple more estimates to confirm!

I work in sitework in Massachusetts, and I don’t think I could do it cheaper. However, I'd suggest getting a few more quotes just to be sure. Always best to compare bids!
