Recommendations for Vegan-Friendly Organic Soil and Compost for Raised Beds

Asked By GreenerThumb09 On

I'm in the process of setting up some raised garden beds and I'm looking for the best options for organic soil and compost. Ideally, I want to stick with vegan-friendly choices, so no bone meal or manure, but I could consider marine options like shellfish or fish meal. Currently, my beds are built up to 18 inches high and filled with a mix of chips, mulch, coir, organic Miracle Grow, and sawdust. Any suggestions?

Definitely check out the Kis Organics blog! They have a great article about vegan soil amendments and soil options that could be super helpful for your raised beds.

You might want to reach out to local garden centers or recycling centers that sell compost. Ask them specifically what goes into their compost. In my area, there are usually dairy manure composts available, but you can find some spots that produce compost made purely from leaves and other plant materials. For fertilizers, I've had good luck with the Vegan Blend from Down to Earth; it's solid stuff!

Just a heads up, always inspect the soil for any trash or contaminants before you buy it. This can save you a lot of trouble later on!

Thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to check it before I purchase.
