Help! My Indoor Lemon Tree Is Overrun by Fungal Flies!

Hey everyone, I'm really struggling here and could use some help! I recently bought a lemon tree online and it's been growing great in my kitchen, producing lots of lemons. However, I've discovered a huge problem: fungal flies! They're everywhere in my kitchen and I've killed about 20 today alone. I even moved the tree outside in hopes of getting rid of them, but I'd prefer to keep it indoors.

I've added two inches of sand on top of the soil and set up a sticky trap, but I'm still catching around 50 flies per day. I really need to know: did these flies come with my tree or the compost I used (which was store-bought and sealed)? What other options do I have? Should I completely empty the pot and start fresh? And finally, could these flies spread to my other plants? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

For the fungal flies, I definitely recommend looking into nematodes. They work really well and can help control the population. Just so you know, they can spread to other plants if you're not careful.
