I'm looking to replace the culvert in the ditch in front of my driveway myself. I've got a plan to tackle most of the work without hiring a contractor, but I'm a bit stuck on removing the old culvert. It's a hefty 18"x20' steel one that's all plugged up. My idea is to cut the asphalt, dig out the fill, slice the culvert in half, and then use a winch to pull it out. For the new installation, I plan to use a plastic culvert since it's lighter and easier to handle. Has anyone here pulled off something similar without needing heavy equipment?

You might want to reconsider the amount of earth you'll need to move for this job. Trust me, it can get pretty overwhelming! You might be able to do some initial digging, but remember it's a big task, and finishing in one day without equipment could be tough. Keep in mind how long your driveway will be out of commission during all this.

I've done a lot of shoveling before, like moving 12 yards of dirt in a day all by myself last year. If I can manage that, I'm sure I can handle this!
