Issues with Low Water Pressure in My Well Water System

Hey everyone! I live in an older home that relies on a well water system, and I've noticed that we lose water pressure daily. It usually sits at around 20 psi, and I have to flip the breaker switch to get it back up to 50 psi or more. After that, the pressure tends to drop back down to 20 psi or lower, and it can take hours for the water pressure to come back. Sometimes, we don't even get high pressure at all. I'm curious if this is normal for well systems and what steps I can take to resolve the issue, given that it's been a while since anyone checked it out. Is this the right place to be asking about it?

Yeah, that's not typical behavior for a well system. My pressure stays consistently between 40 to 60 psi, similar to municipal systems. If you're up for it, there are definitely some checks you can do yourself. However, if DIY isn’t your thing, I'd suggest getting your dad to help or calling in a professional. It sounds like your system may be struggling to get water to the upper level of your home too, which definitely sounds like something needs looking at.

This definitely isn’t normal. It sounds like your pressure switch might be faulty or something else is going on with your system. I’d recommend checking the pressure switch first since it's one of the easiest and cheapest fixes. You want to make sure it’s turning the pump on when the pressure drops and off when it’s back up. And if your pressure settings are too low, you could adjust them, but be cautious since it involves dealing with high voltage. Also, be sure to check any filters you might have to ensure they're clean.
