Should I Use a Planer on My 2x4s for Garage Shelving?

I'm working on a garage shelving project, and I've noticed that my construction-grade 2x4s are not square, making it tough to keep everything aligned. I have a planer but didn't think about using it until now. For a simple garage project, do you think it's worth planning these boards?

A planer will definitely help you get two opposing sides parallel, but just keep in mind it won’t make them perfectly square. If you want your project to look neat, it's a step you might consider. Just don't expect it to fix everything!

True, but with some clever adjustments, you can actually square all four sides with a planer! It just requires a bit of extra effort.
