Hey everyone! I recently caught the flu and unfortunately, a good chunk of my plant starts didn't make it due to my lack of attention. I still have plenty of space in the garden and my passion for gardening is strong, but I want to avoid spending too much on new starts. I've got a ton of seeds already at home. What are some recommendations for things I can still directly sow this time of year in Zone 5?

I’d suggest direct sowing dill, radishes, nasty little nasturtiums, and cucumbers! I think those should still do well for you.
You might want to try direct sowing some calendula and zinnias since they’re fast starters. If you're thinking about veggies too, sunflowers could still work! What are you leaning towards?
Definitely check the days to maturity for what you want to grow and compare that to your first frost date. That’ll really help you decide what can still get going!
In Zone 5, your growing season is pretty short, so consider direct sowing perennials like garlic chives, or quick-maturing veggies like butternut squash and zucchini. We tried nasturtium from seeds one year, and it barely flowered before the first frost, so just keep that in mind!
Good to know! I guess I should look for quicker options if I'm going to sow now.
I would go for cabbage, beans, corn, cucumbers, zucchinis, melons, and lettuce. Just a heads up though, it might be too early for carrots as they like warmer soil to sprout!

Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely give those a go!
