Can Bigger Sawmills Help Hobbyist Woodworkers?

I'm curious if larger sawmills, like Adriatic Wood Products near me, cater to hobbyists like myself. I typically buy around $200 worth of lumber at a time, and I'm unsure if they'll fulfill smaller orders. I've only found hobbyist-friendly places in Brooklyn so far, and I'm looking for tips as I'm just two months into woodworking while balancing my studies. Should I reach out to them directly, or is this something they commonly do?

Definitely check out Dykes Lumber in Brooklyn if you can't get what you want from Adriatic. I've had good experiences buying smaller quantities from them, like plywood and drawer slides. Visiting in person might give you a better feel for what they can offer.

That sounds great! I’ll swing by there soon to see what they have.

I think they might sell to you! Just give them a call. They usually have big orders, so you might not be their priority, but they can accommodate smaller ones—it just might take a while. Keep in mind, their hours are weekdays from 8 to 4, which can make it tricky if you’re working during those times.
