Do You Have Any Funny or Serious Garden Superstitions?

I'm curious if anyone out there has any quirky or meaningful rituals or superstitions related to gardening! For instance, I have this theory that the garden gods sometimes demand a blood sacrifice, kind of like how job gods operate. A while back, I accidentally stabbed my thumb while working on some sprinkler parts with a pocket knife (yes, I know that was not the smartest move). That year, our garden thrived like never before! Recently, after dealing with some frost-bitten tomatoes, I decided to trim them back and sprinkled some blood meal around them. Maybe that's a way to indirectly offer a blood sacrifice? ?

Haha, I also believe in blood sacrifices! My husband has to ‘sacrifice’ his blood every year for our veggie garden. He once stabbed himself, and now it’s become a tradition—it’s the fourth year now! I'm starting to think there's some truth to it!

This is too good! I have a productive bed in my garden now that I busted my lip on while taking it apart. There’s a chance it just gets a lot of sun, but I like to think my struggle made it flourish! Also, we bury our chickens under our oldest pear tree, which is over 100 years old. Guess it's our way of honoring them!

I might be a bit strange, but whenever I plant seeds, I talk to the plants like they’re my little buddies! I tell them, 'Grow big so I can eat you!' and weirdly enough, it seems to work! But watch out for the squirrels—they don’t care about your sweet nothings!

I’ve got a pretty funny one! I always start my pepper seeds when it’s snowing outside. It became a tradition to ensure they get planted just right, plus I enjoy a day of skiing before returning to the garden work!

I totally get that! I have this weird tradition of sowing onion seeds on January 1 while sipping whisky—it actually seems to make the onions grow bigger, no joke! Cheers to garden rituals!
