Dealing with a Possible Drain Field Problem After Yard Re-Grading

Hey everyone! I just had my yard re-graded after replacing my leach field a couple of years back. The crew used a 2800 lb machine as advised by the company that did the leach field, since they mentioned that only a maximum of 3000 lbs should be driven on it. However, after some heavy rain over the past two weeks, I've noticed a sewage smell coming from certain parts of my yard. Even though we had a few dry days, the smell hasn't gone away and it's raining again. Given how stressful the leach field replacement was for me, I'm wondering what I should do next? Should I wait for longer dry weather, have the leach field checked with a camera, or what? I'm concerned about potential damage, and unfortunately, I don't have the crew's insurance. Any advice would be appreciated!

Heavy rain really can affect how well a leach field works, so it might just be a temporary issue. Still, I’d recommend getting a camera scope to check the tubes for any damage. Better to confirm that everything’s okay before tackling any repairs. Just my two cents!

It sounds like your leach field might not be functioning as it should. Technically, sewage shouldn't reach the leach field since it’s supposed to be treated first. Have you had your septic tanks pumped recently? If not, that might be your first step before it gets worse.

I had them pumped two years ago.

Definitely seems like a good idea to scope out the leach field. You don’t want to end up fixing it without knowing for sure if it’s compromised. Just a heads up for the future though; it’s usually better to check everything before making any replacements in the first place.

I did get it inspected before replacing the leach field completely.
