I'm trying to cut small rods, specifically 5mm brass and stainless steel, and I'm having a tough time finding the right tool for the job. Most of my tools aren't really suited for this – my older Dremel struggles to get a square cut on anything longer than 2 inches, and my angle grinder just doesn't provide the precision I need. I've got an older right angle die grinder but I don't have a cutting disc for it; I mainly use it for deburring with a Scotch Brite pad. I'm considering the M12 Fuel PortaBand for a future project, but I'm not sure if it would do the trick. The cuts need to be quite accurate, ideally within 1/32 of an inch after I deburr, and I'll also have some 2.5mm rods to cut soon.

A bandsaw could be your best bet here! It gives you the accuracy you need for cutting small rods without the hassle of hitting the tool body like you do with a Dremel or angle grinder. Just a heads up, though, go for the M18 platform instead of M12 for more power; it’ll handle those materials better. You'll be able to get nice, square cuts!

Yeah, I second that! The bandsaw is such a game-changer for metal work. Plus, the M18 definitely has more oomph for tougher materials.
