DeWalt DCF899M1 Losing Power Again After Repair – What Could Be Wrong?

I have a DeWalt DCF899M1 impact wrench that I bought in January 2021. It was sent for repairs in March 2023 and worked great after that. However, now it's losing power while I'm using it—like today, it struggled to finish removing lower ball joints from my Sequoia. I'm just a hobby mechanic and use it about once a month. I'm worried that my warranty might be expired and I'm hesitant to buy another DeWalt. Did I just end up with a faulty tool?

Sounds like it could be a lemon. When you say it's 'weakening,' can you elaborate? What exactly happens? For me, my impact wrench used to sound different once it hit a certain torque and just wouldn't turn the bolt anymore after that.

I originally bought it in '21. It would run fine, but once I applied around 100 ft-lb of torque, it would abruptly change to a loud sound and stop working. After the repair, it was great until recently when the socket seems to bounce significantly more without proper torque.

Another thing to think about is the receptacle. If the power supply is faulty, it could affect your tool's performance. Investing in a power conditioner might help protect your tools and prolong their life.

Double-check if your batteries are fully charged before each use and see what size you’re using. It’s key for this kind of tool!

I've tried all of them, even the 6AH which was fully charged.

Hey, have you checked the age and capacity of your batteries? If they're older or low on charge, that could definitely impact performance. Like, using a fully charged battery can make a big difference!

I have a mix of batteries: 2A, 4A, 5A, and a 6A. The 6A is the newest and all of them have the same issue.

You might want to consider if your charger is the problem. If it's making the battery heat up a lot during charging, it could weaken your batteries over time.

That could be a possibility, but I have four chargers and none of my other tools are having problems. It’s just this impact wrench that's causing issues.
