Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a pickle with my apartment's crank-style windows, which are quite large (24x45 inches). The landlord controls the central air, and I really need my own portable AC. The screens clip in with "butterfly" clips, so I'm considering my options. I know companies can custom cut plexiglass for window openings, but that can get pricey, especially since I can't take it with me when I move. Plywood is an option, but I don't want to make my already dark apartment even darker. So, I've been thinking about using a clear multiwall polycarbonate sheet—it's not fully transparent, but definitely better than plywood. My main concern is how to secure it in place without damaging the window frame. Would using tape and gluing weatherstripping around it work? I'm open to suggestions! Also, fabric covers with zippers won't work since my window opens out and the landlord prefers nothing visible for aesthetics. Any tips?

You might want to cut a piece of plexiglass to fit over the screen mesh inside the frame and make a hole for the hose. Just tape it all down and reinstall the screen. It won’t damage anything and plexiglass is generally affordable. If you're looking for something cheaper, maybe consider using plastic wrap as a temporary solution.

That sounds great! Just worried about making mistakes when cutting the plexiglass. Any alternatives that are less expensive?
