How Can I Fix My Basement Floor’s Uneven Spots?

Asked By FunkyBanana42 On

I recently purchased my first house, and I've noticed that the basement floor is not level at all. One side is flat, but the other side has high spots and some random low spots, making it look uneven. I'm aware that fixing the whole floor might be quite expensive, so I'm looking for the best solution to address these uneven spots. Ideally, I want to smooth everything out so that I can paint or apply epoxy over it, but I have limited DIY experience. Any tips would be appreciated!

Honestly, you might just want to accept it for now. Fixing it properly can add up, and you could end up spending more than you planned. Sometimes, just getting a good rug can mask the unevenness for a little while until you're ready to dive into a big fix. Plus, you might get used to it!

First, we should figure out if it’s a concrete slab or if you might need to remove flooring in case it’s a crawlspace. Since you mentioned it's a basement, it’s probably a slab, so using self-leveling material would be ideal. Just keep in mind that it’s crucial to get the surface clean before applying anything!

If your basement floor is concrete, you might want to look into using self-leveling compound. It’s designed for exactly this kind of issue and can help fill in those low spots. Just make sure to follow the instructions on it carefully, and you'll be on your way to a smoother floor! Let me know if you have more questions about the process.

That sounds helpful! But do you think I need to do anything special to prepare the floor before applying it?
