How Can I Get a Handle on High Humidity in My House?

I'm really struggling with high humidity levels in my house, and I could use some advice! My Nest thermostat shows a humidity level of 81%, and it rarely drops below 75%, even when conditions are decent. I bought a dehumidifier suitable for 2,200 sqft (my house is 1,300 sqft), and it seemed to help initially, but after some recent rain, my crawl space has been collecting water and now the humidity is through the roof again. I've added two smaller dehumidifiers in separate rooms and even tried those hanging bags for moisture, but none of it is working! I've been keeping my AC set to 67°F and changed the air filter, but nothing seems effective. I'm concerned about the damage this moisture could cause to my home. Any suggestions?

It's critical to address the water issue in your crawl space first. No matter how many dehumidifiers you use, if there's ground water leaking in, it will be tough to bring down the humidity. Check the area for any standing water, and consider grading your yard or adding gutters that direct water away from your foundation. This can really make a difference!

Have you checked if the thermostat is reading humidity accurately? Sometimes those devices can give readings that are higher than reality. A cheap hygrometer can help verify the actual levels around your home, plus keeping a few of them around can give you better insight into where the problem areas are!

I did notice that my dehumidifier reads about 55-60%, but I don't have another way to check the humidity.
