Am I Making a Mistake with My Tool Purchases?

I've been buying tools for my projects, but it seems like I've been getting the wrong ones. I recently purchased an M18 "FUEL" subcompact 1/4" impact on eBay, thinking I got a great deal, but it turned out to be just the standard brushless model, not the FUEL version. Now, I just bought the M18 FUEL Surge hydraulic impact, hoping it would be good for tasks like building decks. However, I found out in the reviews that it might be slower and less powerful compared to other Milwaukee models. I'm looking for a silver lining here—will the hydraulic design help it last longer or reduce vibration on my hands? I'm feeling a bit like I might just end up with tools that rarely get used.

I actually really like my M18 Surge! It's been a lifesaver for quiet jobs—like putting up shelves while my kids were napping upstairs. It’s not as powerful as some brushes, but if you’re comparing it to models not in the same category, you might miss its strengths. It definitely shines for specific tasks, so don't feel too bad about your purchases! Planning ahead next time by asking for advice can really help—I've saved a lot just by getting recommendations from others here. You're not alone in this, so keep asking and sharing your tool experiences!

Exactly! Also, there's a ton of potential in the Surge for certain projects. Just because it’s not the fastest tool doesn’t mean it’s useless. Group chats about tools like this really help, so don’t hesitate to ask before your next buy!

I have the Surge and I’ve used it to construct multiple decks without any power issues. It's quieter and more comfortable for me, especially for shorter screws. Yes, it lacks some torque compared to the Gen 3 Fuel impact, but for many jobs, the comfort and reduced vibration make it the one I reach for most. You’re on the right track with your purchases!

It’s important to understand how they market the Surge. They should promote it as a quiet screwdriver rather than a high-torque impact driver. Many users have shared satisfaction with it for their projects. If you ever feel stuck with an eBay purchase, don’t hesitate to use buyer protections for a refund. Just keep exploring what works for you; every tool has its place!

Thanks for the reassurance! I guess I need to focus on what I really need for my projects rather than getting too caught up in the features.
