What Happens to Leaves After Landscaping Companies Blow Them into Piles?

I've been curious about what landscaping companies do with the leaves after they blow them into neat piles. Recently, I decided to save some cash and get a leaf blower for my yard, but I missed the part where the landscapers dealt with the leaves because of an emergency call. Do they bag them up, use a mulcher, or something else? Just trying to understand the process since I've never seen it firsthand!

In my company, we use a leaf vac or tarps to collect the leaves. If we're working near any wooded areas and it's allowed, we try to blow them there instead. Some companies just mulch them into smaller pieces with a mower to help them decompose more easily, while others might take them to a personal compost site or dump.

I love that idea! I'll have to try mulching the small pieces next time instead of just leaving them.

It really varies by location. In some places, your city provides yard waste bins, so landscaping services just bag the leaves and toss them in there. Others might have compost programs where the city takes care of it curbside. Unfortunately, some areas only allow for landfill dumping, which isn't ideal!

That makes sense! I guess I should figure out what the services are like in my area.

Most landscaping companies will either pick up the leaves and take them to a compost facility or simply blow them to the curb. Sometimes they just leave them for someone else to handle! If they do haul them away, they might charge extra for that. I've seen some use a trailer with a vacuum mulcher to suck them up, but it really depends on the company and your specific arrangement with them.

Thanks for clarifying! Didn't realize they might just blow them onto someone else's property. Good to know!
