Reinstalling Vapor Barrier & Insulation After Water Damage: DIY or Hire a Pro?

Hey folks! I'm in Toronto and I need some guidance on reinstalling the vapor barrier and insulation after some water damage from a leaking window. My insurance company sent someone to remove the damaged materials, and now that the wall is dry, I want to make sure I do this right to avoid future mold or moisture problems. Should I be looking for a specialized insulation contractor, or would a general contractor or even a handyman suffice? Has anyone had similar experiences? I'd love to hear any tips or things I should keep an eye on. Thanks!

You can definitely go the DIY route if you're up for it! Just make sure you get the insulation in and staple the vapor barrier to the studs. Don't forget to tuck tape it and seal everything up top and bottom with sealant before putting up the drywall. But if it’s in a tricky spot, you might want some help!

Thanks for the tips! The barrier was cut pretty high up, so I can’t really reach it now. Makes it a bit tricky for me to seal properly on my own.

Most carpenters should be well-equipped to tackle this kind of job! It really depends on the severity of the water damage though. Is it just that one window or several? If the framing is intact, it might just need some flashing work and resealing. Just make sure to get a few professionals to take a look at it to gauge the extent of the damage!

Thanks for the insight, much appreciated! I’ve had someone reseal the area, so no more leaks as of now. I'm just trying to figure out if there’s any hidden rot or framing problems.
