Suggestions for Trees in Small Gardens That Won’t Block Light?

I recently moved into a new housing estate where the houses are pretty close together, and the gardens aren't very big. Currently, there are no trees in our garden, but I'm eager to plant one without blocking my neighbors' light. I'm looking for tree recommendations that are nice to look at but won't grow too large and overshadow anyone's sunshine throughout the year. Any ideas?

If you’re looking for a compact option, cherry trees like the Amanogawa, also known as flagpole cherry, could be a great pick. They stay slim and tall without taking up too much space.

Consider going for dwarf fruit trees! There are apple varieties on special rootstocks like M9 or M26 that will keep them small and manageable. Also, look into pear trees on Quince rootstock or even small flowering cherries—just be sure to check their maximum height before buying!

Absolutely! Dwarf fruit trees not only give you a harvest but also keep your space bright and airy, making them a win-win!

You might also like dwarf varieties of acers, or Japanese maples. They come in beautiful shapes and colors, and they’re perfect if you want something decorative without overwhelming your space.

Totally agree! Plus, they have a lovely fall color that can brighten your garden even more without taking up much room!
