How Can I Install a Range Hood with the Outlet Directly Behind It?

I'm trying to install a range hood, but there's an outlet right behind the spot where the hood will go, which makes it impossible to fit it flush against the wall. The plug itself takes up an inch of space, and I've been struggling to hold up a 30-inch hood while trying to screw it in. I even used wooden pieces to prop it up temporarily. I'm contemplating using a shorter 24-inch hood instead. I also need to know how to hardwire the hood to the outlet box. Should I remove the outlet cover and connect the wires (including the ground) directly to it? What's the best way to handle the wiring without a plug? Can I drill screws in with the outlet box in the way? Plus, I need to run an extension cord to my microwave too, so I'm a bit lost here.

Definitely check the instructions that came with your range hood first! Most hoods have a built-in wiring box where you'll need to bring your cable (like ROMEX) through the wall. The cable should be secured within the hood using a connector. If your cable doesn't reach, you’ll need to install a junction box—just make sure it's not loose inside the wall cavity or anything like that. Otherwise, pulling in a new cable may be necessary if the existing one is too short.

Can you break that down a bit more? I’ve got three wires sticking out of my range hood. How should they connect to the outlet box? If I take off the cover, do I just attach them to the sides and the ground screw there? I can’t put the cover back like that. I’m a bit confused about the junction box idea, too—like, where would I even pull the new wire from? I don't want to do anything too complicated since I’m renting.
