Should I Install an Exterior Door Myself or Hire a Contractor?

I'm planning to install an exterior door in one of the bedrooms since I want to rent it out on Air BnB in the future. The tricky part is that I'll need to cut an opening into the brick outside, and I've never done anything like this before. I've got a bit of experience with carpentry, so I'm confident I could handle the rest once the opening is made. I really want to know if it's a good idea for a complete beginner to take on this project alone or if hiring a contractor would be the better option. I'm hoping to keep the total cost under $2000, but I'm not sure if that's realistic for this type of work.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd just hire a pro for this one. I tried doing it myself and really regretted it. It's a tough job, especially when you're working solo. Trust me, it's not as easy as it looks!

What tools do you think I'd need? A masonry power saw for the bricks, or is there something else?

Replacing doors can indeed be complicated. Even just taking off and putting back bedroom doors can feel easy, but this is a whole different level, especially with the brick. I’ve seen quotes go as high as $7,000 for something that seems straightforward, which makes it confusing! Just keep in mind that doors need to be installed properly to avoid headaches later.

Doors can be tricky to get right, especially if you’re putting in a new one instead of just swapping an old one. I think you’d be better off hiring someone who knows what they're doing to ensure it’s done right.

I'm not replacing a door—I'm cutting a new hole in the wall and bricks for a new door!
