Why Does My Charge Controller Stop Charging Above 60V?

I've got a 12V solar system with some serious hardware: it's powered by three 12V Chins 280Ah LiFePO4 batteries in parallel, giving me a total of 840Ah with built-in BMS. I'm using two PowMr 60A MPPT charge controllers, connected to eight 250W 24V Trina solar panels wired in a 2s2p configuration. The problem I'm facing is that my charge controllers completely cut off solar input whenever the voltage exceeds 60V, even though they should support up to 80V. I've noticed that under good sunlight, the system charges around 80A at times, but when the voltage hovers between 60V and 64V, it stops charging altogether. Once the voltage falls below 60V, usually around 56V, it starts charging effectively again. I'm trying to understand what's going wrong here—any insights would be appreciated!

Another angle to consider is the wiring. Double-check your connections and ensure there’s no voltage drop because of bad wiring. Sometimes, things can get tangled up, leading to confusion in voltage readings, which might trigger the controllers to cut off. Also, with the max input of 720W—not counting losses—if your panels are ever producing too much, that could cause the whole system to act up. Make sure it’s configured well!

Good point! I'll definitely look into the wiring and connections to rule out any issues there. Thanks for your help!

It sounds like your charge controller might be going into protection mode. When it reaches its max input specs, it can shut down to avoid overheating or damage. You mentioned it can handle 80V, but if you’re hitting those upper limits consistently, the charge controller might interpret that as a problem. Looking at your setup, consider if the total PV input power (720W max for 12V) is being exceeded. When you have those 4 panels in parallel, they could be pushing more power than the controller can handle, leading to the shutdown. Just a thought!

Also, are those panels correctly matched? Just make sure everything is labeled right and functioning as it should! If you're mixing types, it could cause issues.
