I recently moved into a new apartment, and my wife is eager to hang some shelves. However, I want to avoid using zip ties or toggle bolts because they leave large holes when we eventually move out. Is there a way to securely hang shelves that can support around 20 lbs without creating holes bigger than a dime?

Using a stud finder is definitely your best bet! Just screw directly into the studs with drywall or deck screws for a solid hold. It might require some effort, but it’s the most reliable option without making big holes. Just keep in mind placement carefully before drilling!
Yeah, it's a bummer but worth it for sturdiness!
Before anything, check if your walls are drywall or plaster. If they're drywall, there are tons of anchors you can use that don't require hitting a stud. Many of them are designed for lightweight loads, so they'll handle about 20 lbs without trouble, and they leave smaller holes!

Totally agree! It's a pain, though, considering my wife's idea of where to put them doesn't always match up with where the studs are, haha.
