I've been really proud of my houseplants until I recently discovered a bad infestation of spider mites, quickly followed by thrips! With over 30 plants at home, I'm feeling overwhelmed as they all seem to be affected. I've already sprayed them with BabyBio Houseplant Pest Killer and ordered neem oil, peppermint castile soap, and diatomaceous earth for additional treatments. I'm feeling pretty crushed over this situation, even though I know it's just a part of the hobby. Could anyone share effective tips for dealing with these pests, or even advice on how to not stress about it too much?

Spider mites can be incredibly persistent. They're a real pain because you have to treat them every two weeks to fully eradicate them. I've had to consider starting fresh with my plants because of them, it's just that frustrating! But don't give up hope; with consistent treatment, you can get things under control. Just keep your approach regular!
Okay, first things first—don't panic! When dealing with thrips, it's crucial to act fast. I recommend using a combination of insecticide spray and a systemic soil treatment to tackle them effectively. Some options for spraying are Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew or Monterey Garden Insect Spray. For systemic treatments, look for something like Bonide Systemic Granules. Just make sure to keep an eye on humidity because it helps kill off adult thrips. Also, remember to avoid repotting for this; it can stress your plants too much. Keep treating once a week until you stop seeing any signs of those pests, and good luck!
Thanks! Is there a limit to how often I can use the Dead Bug Brew? I read somewhere you shouldn't use it more than 4 times a year, is that just for outdoor plants?
Awesome advice! This is super helpful and well-explained!
If you're in Canada and struggling to find the products mentioned, there are still local options! Look for something with similar active ingredients at garden centers or online. Given the climate, you'll need to be especially vigilant with your watering and treatment schedule. Best of luck saving your plants!

I feel your pain! I just came back from vacation and found spider mites all over my plants too. I've been spraying with insecticidal soap, but it hasn’t worked well. Any additional tips?
