I'm living in a tiny house, and the only south-facing window is in my kitchen. I have some starter tubes hung and a few on the sill, but it's still pretty cramped. I want to start my seeds outside but worry about frost. Is a plastic cover really enough to protect them before the last frost? Do heated seed trays or mats exist that could help?

Yes, heat mats are an excellent choice! You might want to set up a shelf with heat mats and even add grow lights if you can. Covering the whole setup with plastic can help retain heat, creating a cozy little greenhouse effect for your seedlings.
Absolutely! You can use heating mats which are great for starting seeds. They’re often found in pet stores since they're used for reptiles. Just place the mat under your seed tray and it should give your seeds the warmth they need to sprout even in cooler conditions.
Heated propagators are also available, especially in places like the UK. They're designed to fit on windowsills and can really help maintain a warm environment for your seeds. Heat cables can work too, especially if you want to try a mini greenhouse setup with a cloche above it!

Good to know, thanks! I’ll look into getting one of those propagators.
