Need Tips on Planting in a Varied Garden Landscape

Hey everyone! I have a decent-sized yard, with one half entirely shaded and the other half getting full to partial sun – I'm in Zone 8B. I'm eager to grow some vegetables and herbs (currently starting lettuce and tomatoes in my garage under grow lights), but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed about choosing native species and how to design my garden to attract beneficial pests while keeping the bad ones at bay. I'm open to any veggies, fruits, or herbs you think would be good to plant. Any suggestions for companion planting or plants that support each other's growth? Let me know if you need more info; I'm just getting started here!

Honestly, just grow what you want to eat! Veggies and fruits thrive best in full sun, so focus on that. Don’t stress too much about companion planting or insects – handle pests as they show up instead of worrying in advance.
