How to Fix the Gap Between My Shower Wall and Plaster Wall?

Hey folks, my friend recently renovated my shower but left a noticeable gap between the end of the shower wall and the plaster wall. He tore out the old wall that had tiles on it, so now the shower wall is about a quarter inch further out than the plaster, creating a gap that's around six inches wide. I'm looking for suggestions on how to patch this up so everything looks flush. I've got some pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/8wU7AKw.

There are different thicknesses of drywall you can use—like 1/4" to 5/8"—so you might want to find one that fits best here. The installation seems off, so the proper way would be to add the sheetrock, then caulk the edges between the sheetrock and the tub surround after you tape and mud it. A little sanding and priming before painting, and it should look good!

Thanks for the tip! I appreciate the guidance. I definitely need to set things right since it was a botched job.
