It's officially summer and my upstairs bedroom is an oven! I just moved in my trusty portable AC unit, but the hose and insulation tape situation is really ruining the vibe. The exhaust hoses are super stiff, making it hard to tuck the unit out of sight or even clean up around it. I can't vent through the wall because I'm renting an older home, and living in the PNW means I'll only need this thing for a handful of hot days until the cooler weather returns in October or November. Does anyone have any DIY tips or tricks to help disguise this ugly unit? It's 2025 and I can't believe stiff accordion hoses are still the way to go!

You might just have to embrace the fact that it's not pretty! We've all been there. Alternatively, maybe look into a mini-split AC if aesthetics are that important to you.
If you're open to it, a U-shaped window unit can be a stylish alternative. It won't totally hide the ugly, but at least it's off the floor.
But aren't those facing some mold recall issues? Check this out [link].
Why not get creative? You could sticker it up or even cover it with contact paper or wallpaper to match your room's style!
That sounds like a fun idea! I was thinking about doing something similar.

Seems like the only option at this point, right?
