Hey everyone! This is my first time posting here, so I hope I'm doing this right! I direct sowed my carrots around March alongside some cool-weather greens. Recently, the heat has caused the greens to bolt, so I harvested them all. Now I've got some empty spaces between my carrot rows, and I'm looking for suggestions on what to plant in those gaps. I've done some research on companion plants, but it seems there are differing opinions on what grows well with carrots. Any ideas? Thanks a bunch!

I like planting herbs like thyme or rosemary near carrots since they don't take over too much space. Keep things like mint in pots, though, as they can be invasive. For fruits, cucumbers and peppers work well, but I'd steer clear of tomatoes because they spread out too much and could impact your carrots' growth. If you're not keen on starting another big gig, look into cover crops like buckwheat—it matures fast and attracts bees!
You should definitely consider planting radishes in between your carrot rows! They grow quickly, while carrots take a bit longer, so the radishes will help mark your rows. I've got hot weather where I live, and I'm crossing my fingers that my carrots can handle it. I've heard they taste sweeter after a frost, so I'm hoping to keep my soil at the right temp to help them survive!
Carrots can get woody if they’re left too long in heat, so you'll want to pull them in a couple of weeks. Right now, I have melons and honeynut squash growing alongside mine, and I've had green peppers with another batch. Come fall, I'm thinking of putting bush beans and lettuce next to the carrots. Good luck with your garden!
