Hey everyone! I've been wondering about garage door insulation. I've got a 3-car garage with three walls exposed to the elements. One side with windows faces east, another south, and the north side has the garage door. Since the sun shines on it for most of the day, it gets pretty hot inside, especially since I live in the south where temperatures don't drop below the 70s at night. I'm usually working out there in the mornings and would love to avoid starting my day in a sauna. I've heard insulation can work wonders, but I'm also concerned it might just retain heat instead. Does anyone have experience with this? Will a decent insulation kit keep my garage cooler, or is it not worth it?

If your garage isn't air-conditioned, adding insulation to the north-facing doors probably won't help much with the heat. Most of the heat comes from two main sources: the air temperature and solar gain. While insulation does slow down heat transfer, a lot of the heat you're feeling is likely due to the sun hitting your garage, especially through windows. If you're not planning to add AC, the insulation might be more of a hassle than a help.

That makes sense! I think all the other sides are already insulated, but I don't see much difference. Plus, with an HOA where I live, getting a mini split seems impossible. Looks like I might have to just cope with the heat!
