Can I Run My Home on a Mix of AC and DC Power?

Hey everyone, I'm currently living abroad but originally from Sudan. With plans to move back, I'm curious about the feasibility of using a combination of AC and DC power systems to run my house. The electrical grid back home has always been unreliable, and with the current war situation, it's only gotten worse. I'm particularly concerned about keeping my home cool, running a fridge, and managing other small appliances. I'm thinking of installing a chiller system for better temperature control, though I haven't crunched the numbers yet. My biggest worry is powering the fridge efficiently, as I know they can be power-hungry. Any suggestions or considerations would be greatly appreciated!

Climate control really depends on how well your house is insulated and the outside temperatures. It might be a good idea to check with someone who has a similar setup to see how much energy they consume monthly. To run everything smoothly, you'd probably need a lot of solar panels and a solid battery setup, especially if you want to maintain power during downtimes. If you can leverage the grid to charge the batteries, that could make things a lot easier!

I don’t have specific records, but when we used a prepaid system, we bought around 216 kWh each month and used roughly 170 kWh, which was often more than we needed. The weather in my area ranges from 15-36°C in winter and 32-49°C in summer, plus we get plenty of sun for solar power.
