Hey fellow gardeners! I'm really struggling to keep cats from using my garden as their personal restroom. I've tried various cat scare devices, but nothing seems to work. Recently, I've lost some young birds to these roaming cats, and I can't handle the constant clean-up of cat poop. I don't have any pets myself, but I'm looking for effective solutions that can genuinely deter these cats. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You could also consider planting pennyroyal. Cats can't stand the smell! Plus, if you spot one in your garden, a quick spray with a hose tends to do the trick too. Remember though, some people suggest using strong scents like chili or vinegar, but be cautious as those can be harmful to them. Just plain old water usually works fine!

I've had great luck with a motion-activated water cannon! It really does scare the cats away better than anything else I've tried. After a few weeks, they seemed to find a new place to hang out, and I didn't even need to keep it on all the time anymore. Highly recommend this method!
I second this! The motion-triggered sprinkler is definitely the way to go. I've tested everything else, and nothing compares.
For sure! It's both humane and effective. It seems to scare them right off. Just be aware that mine broke after a couple of months, but it definitely did the trick!
I've heard my neighbor uses orange peels in their flower beds and swear by it! It might be worth trying. Also, I keep a preloaded water pistol by the back door for a quick scare when I spot them. It’s done wonders for me, even with a cat of my own who isn't a fan of water either!

Good thinking! But yeah, vinegar could be risky for them. Water is definitely the safer route.
