Is It Safe to Remove Hard-Wired Driveway Lights?

I'm looking to get rid of some old hard-wired driveway lights and a lamp post that have been here for around 30 to 60 years, likely installed shortly after my house was built or maybe in the 50s. The lights are connected to the house with underground wiring. I plan to dig them up and cut the wires, but I'm wondering if there are any safety concerns I should be aware of before doing this.

Before you start digging, make sure to disconnect the wires at the power source to avoid any hazards. You'll want to ensure that the circuit is completely off before you cut anything. Just leaving wires exposed isn't a great idea—it's best to cap them off properly.

Good point! Always better to be safe and check twice!

Are these low voltage landscape lights? If so, it's usually as simple as severing the connection after you confirm there's no power. If they're high voltage, though, you really should disconnect them at the source for safety reasons. Don't leave any wires running; it's a potential hazard for the next homeowner.

Yep, those warnings are super important—better to be careful than sorry later!
