I just set up a window air conditioner and I'm curious if there's a way to put a screen on the top half of the window to allow fresh air in sometimes. Is there a practical method for doing this?

Installing a screen on the top half may not be the best idea, as it could let cool air escape when the AC is running. Instead, you might consider using just the fan setting to circulate air from outside while keeping the AC on the bottom. Opening another window in the house can help with ventilation too!
Actually, the fan function of an AC typically doesn’t pull in outside air, so keep that in mind!
If your AC is at the bottom, you can definitely drop the top part down to create a breeze when the weather's nice. I have mine set up like that with a screen on top, so I just pull it up to get fresh air in without needing the AC.

Thanks for the clarification! I think I didn’t explain it well, but I meant keeping the AC below and just lowering the top window when the AC is off, which could let in the cool night air. Does that help?
