Struggling to Drill Into a Concrete Ceiling for Heavy Curtains

I'm trying to install metal brackets in my concrete ceiling to support heavy curtains, but I'm hitting a wall—literally! I can't use nails since I need something more secure, and Tapcon screws won't fit my bracket holes. I've got some plastic anchors with screws meant for concrete, but I'm having a tough time drilling the holes I need. All I have at my disposal are a screw gun and an impact gun, and the masonry drill bits I bought just aren't cutting it. I've heard about hammer drills, but I'm not sure if that's overkill for this job. What do you think?

I’ve put lag bolts into concrete ceilings before, and we had no issues as long as we used a hammer drill. Just make sure you’re using the right kind of drill bits too—masonry bits work on brick, but concrete needs something stronger!

Totally agree, you’ll want a hammer drill. I can’t stress enough how quick it makes the job! Just make sure to use masonry bits specifically meant for concrete since regular bits won’t do the trick. If you don’t own the ceiling, just be careful where you drill, as there could be important stuff in there.

Exactly! Safety first. It's wise to know what you're drilling into before you go all-in.

You definitely need a hammer drill for this! They're designed specifically to handle the toughness of concrete, and you should be able to blast through in seconds. If renting one is an option, that could save you some hassle. Also, you can combine using Tapcon screws with the plastic anchors for extra support!
