Hey everyone! I currently have a basic circular saw and some tools for straight cuts, which works for most of my homeowner maintenance tasks. I plan to tackle several projects in the coming months, including building a deck, a pergola, flower boxes, and some cabinetry. I know I need a table saw for those more ambitious cabinetry projects, but I'm wondering if I can manage most of my upcoming projects with just my circular saw and a decent table saw with a better miter gauge. I'm eyeing the Skil 10" portable table saw ($299) and the Skil 10" sliding compound miter saw ($249), but I can only afford one right now. So, what do you think—a table saw or a miter saw? Considering your budget, I'd suggest looking for a used, higher quality table saw instead of that entry-level model. You might find a decent contractor or cabinet saw on platforms like Craigslist that’ll last longer and perform better!
I'd definitely go for the table saw! It’s super versatile and can handle all the cuts you’ll need for your projects. Plus, if you build a crosscut sled, you’ll get even better accuracy for those cuts! The miter saw is great for quick crosscuts, but it has limitations for larger pieces.

Table saw all the way! It can do everything a miter saw can do, though not vice versa. A good table saw will serve you better in the long run, especially for those cabinetry projects.

Great point! I’ve seen some old cast iron saws pop up for reasonable prices. Might just go that route!
