Best Way to Drill a 3-Inch Hole Through a 2×4?

Hey everyone! I have some spare 2x4s and I need to drill a perfect 3-inch hole through one that's 2 inches thick. I've tried using a hole saw, but it doesn't seem deep enough to go all the way through from just one side. Any recommendations on how to get this done without too much hassle?

You can either drill from both sides and meet in the middle, or you could splurge on a deeper hole saw if you're looking for a one-side solution.

You could use a hole saw to drill until the center bit pokes through the other side, then flip it over and finish the hole with the hole saw from there. It's a pretty straightforward solution!

Is there a way to do this without having to drill from both sides?

If you want a really clean hole, a 3-inch forstner bit is a good choice since it can reach the depth you need without any issues. Just make sure it fits your drill properly!
