Why Aren’t My GFCI Outlets Working?

Hey everyone, I recently discovered that all four of my GFCI outlets—one in the bathroom and three in the kitchen—stopped working. There's also a non-GFCI outlet in the kitchen that seems fine. I bought this old house two months ago, and I had the GFCI outlets installed for safety since there were none before. Just to give you some background, there was a mild storm last night, but the rest of my electrical stuff is working fine. I did check the breaker, and while some circuits had tripped, I reset them, but it didn't fix the outlets. I went through and reset everything one by one, which got two outlets working, but the other two are still out. I've even checked the wiring and don't see anything broken. Should I take a look at the other non-working outlet as well? What else can I do to fix this?

Some GFCI outlets might need to be reset when the power cycles. It’s a good idea to reset all of them, just to be sure. You might find that doing this will bring them back to life!

Haha, thanks! I didn’t realize I wasn’t resetting them correctly. I’ll give that a shot.

GFCI outlets can sometimes fail and won’t reset properly. It's tough to track how they’re daisy-chained which can be a nightmare for electricians. It might take some time to figure out what's going on with yours.

Good to know! Thanks for the info.

Check the closest working GFCI to the ones that aren’t functioning. If they’re daisy-chained (like GFCI 1 feeds GFCI 2, and so on), a loose wire might be the issue. It’s often the one nearest to the breaker box that’s causing the problem.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check that out.
