Feeling Overwhelmed by Garden Pests – Looking for Tips and Support!

Hey everyone, I'm out in my garden every day trying to fend off pests, and it's only early in the season! It feels like an uphill battle—I keep everything tidy and sanitize my tools, but things escalate so quickly. One day my plants look healthy, and the next, they're infested with pests!

The slugs are wreaking havoc, and despite my best efforts to manually remove them, they keep coming back. I'm also dealing with a swarm of aphids and serious leafminer damage on multiple plants. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, my gladioli were shredded by thrips overnight. I've applied contact pesticide multiple times, but nothing seems to work!

Now I've discovered thrips and leafminers attacking my seedlings that are supposed to be safe indoors. It's really disheartening after all the time and effort I've put into cultivating these plants—it's like they get destroyed overnight.

I'm hesitant to plant my sunflowers and dahlias because I'm worried the same fate will befall them. I've heard about slug nematodes, but they're out of stock everywhere. I'm thinking of trying beer traps and some mulch along with manual removal.

Has anyone faced similar issues? Any tips to prevent or eliminate those pesky leafminers and thrips? I feel like throwing in the towel, so any support would be appreciated!

I totally get where you're coming from! It’s tough dealing with pests like slugs and aphids. I’ve had my fair share of plant losses too. What works for me is to focus on plants that are more resistant to pests. Sure, you may have to give up on some favorites, but finding hardy plants can really make a difference. Hang in there! Don't let those pests win!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm definitely leaning towards lower maintenance plants that can handle challenges. I found some resilient chrysanthemums that I'm hoping will recover from slug damage. Fingers crossed!
