How Can I Remove Mineral Deposits from My Toilet?

Asked By ToiletTroubles123 On

I have a 15-year-old toilet with some serious brown mineral deposits at the bottom. I've tried soaking it with CLR for over 5 minutes after completely draining it, but no luck. I also attempted scraping with a hard plastic scraper, but it didn't help. I'm hesitant to use anything metal like a razor blade since it might scratch the porcelain. Does anyone have any suggestions for removing these deposits?

A pumice stone might be your best bet! It sounds scratchy when you use it but trust me, it won't damage the porcelain—just takes off those pesky mineral deposits! You can find one at Walmart.

Definitely! I've used it with great success before—it's quick and effective.

I've had a similar problem and found that letting CLR sit for longer worked wonders. I drained the toilet, filled it with CLR, and let it sit for about a week. No visible damage, and it scrubbed off like a dream! Just be careful with how long you leave it, though.

Don't forget about vinegar! I dumped white vinegar in mine overnight, and it worked like magic! If you want extra cleaning power, try mixing citric acid with some warm water—it dissolves those hard deposits really well. Just let it sit for as long as you can and then scrub!

Citric acid is great! I also mixed some with baking soda for extra fizz. It dissolved everything easily.
