How Can I Keep My Garage Cool While Woodworking?

Good morning! I've just started woodworking in my garage and I'm looking for effective ways to keep it cool. I've already added insulated panels to the door, but I'm considering getting a portable AC unit or what I refer to as a swamp cooler. My goal isn't to make it freezing, just more tolerable during those hot days. A key concern I have is the venting for the portable AC units since I want the door to be able to stay up sometimes.

I'd avoid swamp coolers since they can raise humidity levels, potentially rusting tools or warping wood. If you have a window, a window AC unit is a more reliable and cost-effective choice!

A 2-hose portable AC unit is worth considering! Or you could go for a mini-split system if you're up for it. They're efficient and great for climate control in a workshop. Just make sure to ventilate properly when you use it!

If you’ve got electricity available, a PTAC system through the wall could work well. Otherwise, like others mentioned, a window unit is easy to install and generally reliable.

Repurposing ceiling fans is a great option! They can really help keep you cool even in 90-degree weather. If your garage is fully insulated, installing a mini-split might be your best bet, but if it isn’t well insulated, you might waste money trying to cool it down.

Totally agree! Ceiling fans do wonders for just a bit of electricity.

I'm turning my outdoor storage shed into a woodshop myself! I've electrified and insulated it, and I'm putting up OSB for the walls. After that, I'm going with a mini-split. It's small enough to fit and I can use my Lowe's card to get a discount. I've factored everything into costing less than buying a new shed!
